Shirley Jean Squires

Shirley Jean Squires (May), born on July 19, 1927, in Los Angeles, CA, passed away peacefully and into the arms of her Lord in Placentia, CA, on May 21, 2020, at the age of 92. She had resided in Yorba Linda since 2000. Born to Arthur May and Zelma Daves, Shirley spent much of her life living in Oklahoma. It was there where she met her future husband and love of her life, Ronald Adell Squires, when they were still in grade school. The two were married after graduating from Guthrie High School, just before Ronald would deploy for his service in World War II, and would remain together for 70 years until Ronald's passing in 2015. The two moved to southern California after Ron's service was complete. Settling in Long Beach, Shirley worked in several fulfilling jobs including as an executive secretary and a realtor. They had two daughters: Trudy Kay (dec. 2013) and Bonnie Jean. In 1985, she and Ronald returned to Oklahoma where they spent the next 15 years working the land on the Squires' family homestead in Deer Creek before moving back to southern California in 2000 to be closer to their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Shirley is survived by her daughter Bonnie; grandchildren Ryan Reilly, Andrew Young, Danielle Sargent, and Kathleen Palmer; and great-grandchildren Derek, Luke, and Taya Reilly. Arrangements for a small, family graveside service are under the direction of Forest Lawn in Cypress. She will be laid to rest next to Ronald.
