Shirley Jones

Shirley Jean Jones was born on May 29, 1962, in Troy, AL. She passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023. She resided in Lynwood, CA at the time of her passing.

Shirley was the youngest sister, one of eleven siblings (6 boys and 5 girls) born to James and Edonure Jones. Shirley enjoyed sharing the love of Jesus with others and she was always encouraging others to win. Often in the mornings when she woke up, she would say, “this is the day the Lord has made and let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

She was blessed with the God-Given talent of being an artist and could sketch almost anything just by looking at it. Shirley loved to laugh, go for walks, shop and she loved herself some peanut butter. She enjoyed spending time baking with her daughter.

Her life was a living testimony, and she loved many Bible scriptures, but these two scriptures exemplify how she overcame and found joy in every day:

Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Nehemiah 8:10 – “for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

She was a woman of great strength and fought her battle with cancer by faith.  Her mother, father, and four brothers preceded her in death. Shirley was a loving mother, and she leaves to cherish her memory with her daughter, Carol Jones, and Idella Hollis, who was a mother-figure to her, Carol's grandmother, along with her siblings, Betty Pollard, Annie Jones-Hatchett, Clarence Jones, John Jones, Martha Jones-Joseph (Paul), Linda Jones, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Monday, June 5, 2023. Viewing is between 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and Graveside Service is from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn – Cypress.
