Sharon Eileen McNamara died suddenly on January 26, 2023, in Los Angeles, where she had lived all her adult life. She recently faced cancer, bravely completing treatment, and was in her recovery phase. She was born on October 1, 1962, in Tacoma, Washington, the youngest child of the late Edward J. (Jack) and Elaine McNamara. She attended St. Patrick's elementary school and Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma. Sharon studied at the University of Southern California and at the University of California at Irvine; she specialized in film production, earning an MFA in Cinematic Arts at USC.
For over a decade, Sharon enjoyed a career as an editor in film and television. She loved Hollywood studio films and worked on several documentaries about stars from that era. She later pursued a rewarding career as Vice President for Human Resources for a private security company, where she was a beloved colleague. She always enjoyed travel, and she ventured forth, often on tours to Europe, whenever she could, camera in hand. She was a football fan, especially of the USC Trojans--a proud and loyal member of the Trojan Family.
She is survived by her five siblings, Judy Shoaf (Al) of Gainesville, Florida; Anne Marie McNamara, of Seattle, Washington; Dennis McNamara (Lynne), of Pasadena, California; Mark McNamara (Liza) of Sedona, Arizona, and Robert McNamara (Sandy) of Menlo Park, California. "Aunt Sharon" was both a warm friend and a source of cool knowledge for her eleven nieces and nephews Alex, Brian, Ryan, Elaine, Kathleen, Andy, Stephanie, her godson John, Patrick, Kevin, and Matthew. More recently, she made sure to hug each of her ten great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 11 at 1 pm, at Our Savior Parish at the Caruso Catholic Center on the USC campus, 844 West 32nd Street, Los Angeles. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), a cause she supported over many years.
