SHAFTER MCCOY passed away peacefully at his home in Pasadena, California on April 8, 2020. Shafter, the son of James and Jean McCoy, was born on October 25, 1961 in Glendale, California. He was raised in Pasadena, California, where he lived most of his life, with the exception of the few years he spent in Maui.
Shafter graduated from John Muir High School, class of 1979 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix. He began a career at Kodak before becoming a Real Estate Agent and Loan Broker.
In 2007, Shafter founded Elijah House; a Sober Living Facility which later evolved into a top-rated JACHO Accredited Treatment Center for men and women. Shafter devoted his life to his business and his community.
However, to know Shafter McCoy meant you knew he loved his family and always family first. He was a loving and attentive son; uncle/father to his niece, Jasmine McCoy, whom he raised as his daughter; a beloved brother to his siblings; and the best business partner and friend one could have. Shafter was his family's Rock of Gibraltar and he was easy to love. He was blessed enough to find "True Love" when he met his girlfriend, life partner and as Shafter would say, "love of his life", Tabitha Reed, who brought him so much joy!
Shafter loved the Lord, his family and friends! Though his presence and bold laughter will be dearly missed, Shafter, personified love, happiness and his joyful spirit will live on.
Everything Shafter was reflects the love and trust shared amongst his family members and friends.
Shafter was preceded in death by his father James McCoy; brother Kelvin Miller; and his younger brother, business partner and best friend James McCoy.
He is survived by his mother Jean McCoy; niece/daughter Jasmine McCoy; brothers Ronald Miller, Stephen Miller (Rene); his beloved and only sister Pamela McCoy Carline (David); nephew Baron Elijah; niece Sarai Olivia; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of extended family members and friends. Shafter McCoy lives in our hearts forever!
