Selma J. Rolnick, 86, of Rancho Mirage, Calif. passed away on November 9, 2014. Selma was born on June 21, 1928, to Abraham Moses Javodick and Mary Salinsky Javodick, in Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Forest Park High School in 1945. Selma met the love of her life, Morton Jacob Rolnick after his discharge from the Navy, and they were married on March 7, 1948 in Baltimore. Mort and Sel raised two daughters in Baltimore, lived in Miami Beach, Fla., Los Angeles, Calf. and then moved in 1978 to Rancho Mirage where they became charter members of Mission Hills Country Club. Mort and Sel shared a beautiful marriage of 61 years before Mort's death in 2009. All who knew Sel, were taken with her unique combination of outstanding qualities. Smart, sophisticated, beautiful, generous, loving, kind and so brave. Simply put "Sel was an amazing person." Sel's keen understanding of people, her business savvy, and genuine desire to do the right thing helped her to become one of the top real estate brokers in Rancho Mirage, a position she held for over 30 years. Sel's superb analytic ability, her love of numbers, and pleasure in figuring out puzzles contributed to her morning routine of solving complex Sudoku puzzles and her pleasure and success, in playing bridge, a lifelong passion. Selma's love and devotion to family was among her highest priorities and was apparent in all that she did. Her daily conversations with her daughters, closeness with her son-in-laws, and grandchildren were the product of her generous love and willingness to support all those she loved without judgment. And most of all, Sel was fun. She loved a great glass of chardonnay, told wonderful stories, and loved movies and books with happy endings. Sel will be greatly missed by those that knew her and loved her. Selma is survived by her daughter Harriet M. Rolnick and son-in-law Stephen J. Strauss, of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; daughter Abbe Gene Rolnick and son in law Jim Wiggins, of Sedro Woolley, WA and four grandchildren; Mara, Will, Elly and Ben and one great grandchild, Paige. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cathedral City with Interment to follow at Desert Memorial Park.
