Santos Fabela Cabada

November 1, 1936 - November 13, 2022

Santos Fabela Cabada was born on November 1st 1936 to Jose Cabada Lopez and Guadalupe Fabela Lopez in the state of Durango, Mexico. His siblings included Abelino, Otilia, Macedonio and Amparo. His family had limited resources. Economic hardships instilled a strong work ethic from a very young age; driving him to focus his energy on providing for his loved ones.

He held various jobs as a child including gathering firewood in the Durango mountains to sell in town. Santos was known as a generous and cheerful boy. When returning home from work in the mountains, people knew he was near when they heard him whistling and singing happily as he walked by.

Santos continued to grow into a responsible, diligent, courageous man and held a respectable position within his community for the help he provided his family and neighbors.

Throughout his life he lived where work called him. In Mexico: Durango, Arroyo Chico, Tova, Tijuana and the United States: La Habra, Bell Gardens, Corona and finally Pomona, California. He made his living in construction (specializing in cement) as a proud member of Local Laborers' 652 (Orange County) and helped build many of the freeway structures and overpasses in Southern California.

He fathered two children, Juan and Daniel, in his first marriage to Graciela Angel. Later he married Hermelinda (Mely) López Cigarroa and became a father to her child David. He loved all his children dearly and instilled the same qualities that he learned as a hardworking child, teenager and man. Additionally, Santos and Mely were foster parents for troubled children, continuing their commitment to helping those in need.

Santos was married to Mely for over thirty years. They enjoyed their life together. Mely passed away in September of 2022.

God has called Santos into his presence. Santos is survived by his siblings Otilia and Macedonio, sons: Juan, Daniel, and David, grandchildren: Johnny, Andre, Justin, Kelly and Douglas and his many nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered with love and affection. Rest in peace, Santos Fabela Cabada.

Santos Fabela Cabada
