Samnieng Rous, aged 67, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 at home in Long Beach, after a battle with cancer. Samnieng was born in the town of Sdok, in the commune of Sathey, in the district of Kampong Tralach, in the province of Kampong Chhnang, in the country of Cambodia on March 6, 1950. She is the daughter of Chhoun Chhim and Ann Chum.

Samnieng is a survivor of the Khmer Rouge. She left her birthplace in 1966 and made her way to the Khao I Dang refugee camp in 1980. Samnieng went to the Kamput camp and married Houn Kong in May of 1981. After the Kamput camp was shut down she moved back to the Khao I Dang refugee camp where she birthed her first son in 1982. In 1984 she made her way to the Chun Buri camp where she had her second son and then shortly afterward moved to the Bataan camp in the Philippines. Samnieng left the Philippines and came to America in 1985. Her last child was born in Missouri in 1986. Samnieng moved to California in 1990.

She is a devout Christian with an unshakable faith and very active in her Church. She became a Christian before her husband and introduced him to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Samnieng and her husband raised all of their children in the church. She showed love and compassion everywhere she went. She would want everyone to know that those who believe in Jesus, have been baptized, and have a faith in God are saved; they will have eternal life in Heaven.

She is survived by her husband Houn Kong, Sister Sokhoeun of Cambodia, Sister Sokhorn of Cambodia, Sister Sokhon Cambodia, Daughter Saley (Poun) Son, Son Samrith (Brittany) Logan Kong of Bluffton, Son Khemarak (Lakhna) Kong of Long Beach, Daughter Sahara (Scott) Zemlock of Long Beach, Grandsons Junead, Justin, Brenden, Kayden and Jace, Granddaughters Shellaney, Kaylana and Jayla and several God Children.
