Sampson Frank Williams

April 5, 1936 — January 23, 2021

Sampson Frank Williams was born in Darlington, South Carolina on April 5, 1936, the sixth of eight children born to Charles Williams II and Elizabeth (Hicks) Williams. Sampson departed this life on January 23, 2021, following a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was 84 years old.

Sampson grew up in Darlington, South Carolina. After graduating from Mayo High School, he voluntarily joined the United States Army in 1962, being honorably discharged in 1966. Sampson's last duty station was in California. He decided to move to Inglewood, but eventually settled in Rancho Cucamonga. Sampson later attended college, earning a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Sampson worked as a baker for ten years, and then joined the American General Life Insurance Company as an insurance salesman. Sampson worked for American General for twenty-eight years, eventually retiring as a District Manager. After retiring, he enjoyed exercising; reading; traveling; and watching his favorite football team, the Rams.

Sampson accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age, and loved to sing in the Church choir. He generously gave to various organizations that he believed in, such as the Disabled Veterans of America; Boys & Girls Club; and various fund-raising drives to help those in need.

Sampson was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: sisters Willie Mae (Johnson); Mary (Shields) and her twin sister, Martha (who died in childbirth); Annie Mae Williams; Dorethea (Walston); and Thomasina (Young); and his brother, Charles III.

Sampson never married or had children of his own, but he adored his nieces and nephews, who he leaves behind along with a host of cousins and friends. He will be sorely missed.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, California. The funeral service is scheduled for March 17, 2021.
