Ruth Medina was born on May 19, 1948, in Batac, Philippines, to Agustin and Dolores Arcangel, with whom she is now reunited in heaven. On the morning of July 1, 2023, she peacefully passed away at her home in Chino Hills, California, surrounded in love by her husband, children and grandchildren.
Ruth attended Northern Christian College in Laoag City, Philippines, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce in 1968. She immigrated to the United States with the support of her eldest sister in 1978. She worked as an Assistant Operations Manager for California First Bank for 26 years until her retirement in 2004.
In 1978, through an introduction by her brother-in-law at the Agno Association Fiesta at Sambi Restaurant in Downey, she met the love of her life, Edmund Medina. They were married on July 9, 1979, and enjoyed over 43 years of wedded bliss. The happy couple welcomed their first child, Christopher John, in 1980. Three years later, they were joined by their daughter, Christine Joyce. Ruth was blessed to experience being a grandmother with her grandsons Jalen, Brennen, Tristen and Kasen. In addition to her immediate family, Ruth is survived and beloved by six sisters and two brothers.
Ruth was endlessly devoted to her family. When she wasn’t being doted on by Ed or watching her grandsons’ many basketball games, she could be found at one of her siblings’ houses playing mahjong late into the night. Her presence at family gatherings will be greatly missed.
Arrangements to celebrate Ruth’s life are under the care of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California. The viewing will be in the Hope Chapel on Thursday, August 3, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. A Catholic service will be held at the Patriot Chapel on Friday, August 4, 9:00-10:00 am and will be followed by the procession to the gravesite and burial.
