Ruth Catherine Johnson

Ruth Catherine Johnson, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 9th, 2020. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Eva Harmon Hale, her sister, Georgia Ford, her brothers, Thomas Hale, Jr., Clyde Hale, James Hale, and her son, Gregory Hughes.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years; Willie Johnson, daughter; Lisha Kidd, Brother; Albert Hale, adopted son & daughter; Keith and Margaret Williams, three grandchildren; Monica Hughes, Rachel Kidd, Yvette Kidd, four great grandchildren; Jaimee, Logan, Rylee and Sydnee, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Ruth's funeral service/Entombment will be held on November 24th at 2:30 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park – Covina Hills, Covina, California. Her memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Sylacauga on December 6th at 3:00 pm.

Ruth attended and graduated from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama with a nursing certificate. She later received her RN degree from Pepperdine University in California. Ruth began her career in nursing working at Sylacauga Hospital, after that she worked at Long Beach Naval Hospital and as a school nurse. Ruth worked as an RN at various hospitals or as a school nurse at locations throughout the United States and overseas. She retired from nursing in 1985.

Throughout her exemplary life, Ruth dedicated her life to loving the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul while serving and loving others with a servant's heart. Her humanitarian spirit was reflected in her life's work as a registered nurse and her life long membership in the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She was truly respected and admired for her captivating smile and her peaceful, quiet approach to serving, caring and loving all who crossed her path both inside and outside of the hospitals and schools from which she worked.
