Ruth Helen Fairall was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1926. Ruth was the youngest of nine children born to the Logg Family in Spokane, Washington. At the age of five, Ruth's family migrated from the Great Northwest to sunny Southern California, where they settled and Ruth lived the remainder of her life. Ruth attended John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, CA. Around that time, Ruth began to catch the attention of a slightly older boy named James Fairall. James would hot rod up and down Ruth's street, while Ruth would welcome the attention, usually in a bathing suit.
In 1944, their love affair was briefly disrupted when James was deployed to the European front for the Second World War. Though they were separated by thousands of miles, the two kept their romance aflame through the written word, writing letters to each other as often as they could, and until James returned home in 1946. During the time James was in Europe, Ruth attended Biola, a Christian college, with her sister Edie. Ruth loved to tell stories about how she and her sister loved being on the college basketball team! Sisters can send signals across the court that couldn't be detected by anyone else. On June 2, 1948, James and Ruth said their wedding vows in front of family and friends at the Chapel of the Roses in Pasadena, CA. In the early years, James went to work for MGM for whom he continued to work until his retirement, while Ruth served as a telephone operator, connecting the people of Los Angeles to each other.
On March 5, 1954 James and Ruth welcomed their first child, a girl, Peggy Lynn Fairall into the world. Two years later on November 16, 1956, the trio became a foursome when Scott Jay Fairall rounded out their family. After giving birth to two children, Ruth turned her attention to the home front where she became a dedicated mother and house wife. She served admirably in that role until her final days, always worrying about the well-being of everyone but herself.
In 1979, new joy was brought into the Fairall family when Scott and his wife Elsa brought home the family's first grandchild in James Robert Fairall. Scott and Elsa would have another boy Brian Keith in 1981, while Peggy welcomed the families' first granddaughter Shannon Eileen Kalfell [Wheeler] in 1984. Scott and Elsa would add to the family with the addition of Anthony Michael in 1985, while Peggy gave birth to the family's final grandchild, Heather Nicole Kalfell [Valdes] in 1986.
Ruth passed away on September 13, 2017 and is preceded into the afterlife by her son Scott and daughter-in-law Elsa, along with her eight siblings and both parents. She leaves behind her loving husband James, daughter Peggy, grandchildren; Jimmy, Brian, Shannon, Anthony, and Heather grandchildren in-law; Linda, Nathalie, Andrew, and Carlos, and 10 great-grandchildren; Andrew, Lorisa, Aydan, Vincent, Logan, Lucas, Zoey, Carlos, Audrey, and a new baby boy later in 2018. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her remaining family to whom she taught about faith, humility, respect, and empathy. Services in her honor will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills in the Old North Church. A graveside service will immediately follow.
