Ruby Jo Edwards Myatt was born on April 9, 1932, in Tehlequah, Oklahoma to Otto and Vinnie Edwards. She was the third of four children. The family soon moved to Glendale, CA where she spent most of her early life surrounded by an extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and cousins. She graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale in 1950. After high school Ruby worked at Lockheed as an office worker.
In 1950, she met Billy Lowe Myatt on a blind date. Billy, who was from Tennessee, was in the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Hamner, a destroyer. They were married on August 8, 1952 and were married for 56 years until Billy passed away in 2008.
Ruby enjoyed many things. First and foremost, she was a great mother. She loved to be with her two daughters. She used to make great character birthday cakes for the girls’ birthday parties. Of course, Ruby curled the girl’s hair the day before every holiday to be ready for the family get togethers. She was a room mother and Girl Scout leader. She also taught Sunday School for years, sharing her faith and love for the Lord. Four trips a year to Disneyland were normal. Many weekends were spent at the Edwards Family cabin in Crestline playing outside, playing card and board games and being with her extended family. Another thing she liked was being a grandma to her grandchildren. She took many trips with them and enjoyed going to theme parks, especially Disneyland, and doing other things with them. In her later years she was blessed with great grandchildren. She liked to see and spend time with them. A highlight for her was a final trip to Disneyland on her 90th birthday with her dependents and many friends.
After her children were grown, she enjoyed traveling around the world, as Bill and nephew Ken worked on movie locations.
Ruby battled many health issues during her life always with a positive attitude. Ruby was born with club feet that were corrected at a young age and required her to be in casts for some time. She was a poster child for the March of Dimes with her club feet. Later in life she overcame cancer and battled different autoimmune diseases. She always fought these with courage and determination.
Ruby passed away on March 6, 2024, at home in Acton, CA just shy of her 92nd birthday. She is survived by her children Paul and Debbie Price, Tim and Susan Woken, nephew Ken Estes, six grandchildren and their spouses, 10 great grandchildren, with one more on the way. She is also survived by sister-in-law Christa Edwards and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
