Ruben Mercurio Hechanova, M.D.
September 4, 1941 - October 7, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Ruben M. Hechanova in his home in West Covina, California, on October 7, 2024. Dr. Hechanova, 83, left behind a legacy of love, faith, compassion, and integrity.
Dr. Hechanova was born in Negros Occidental, Philippines. He finished his medical degree in Far Eastern University in Manila. He practiced as a Doctor of Medicine in the Philippines for 25 years before migrating to the United States where he served as a Nursing Home Administrator until his retirement in 2010.
As a man of unwavering faith, he read his Bible regularly which guided him throughout his life. His deeply-rooted faith in God is evident in the way he offered guidance and biblical wisdom to his family and friends and to all who knew him. He always had a Bible verse to share in every life situation. He was a dedicated physician and surgeon who touched countless lives throughout his career. His patients and their families would remember him as a compassionate medical provider who treated them with kindness and integrity. He was also a generous soul who always put others first.
Beyond his profession, Ruben or “Doc” was known for his love of "Sports",basketball and Boxing to be specific. He never missed an NBA game on TV and Pay-per-view boxing. He also had a passion for reading, but most of all, he was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband and father, a great provider, encourager, fighter, giver, and prayer warrior.
Dr. Hechanova is survived by his cherished wife of 57 years, Filipina Domingo Hechanova; four sons: Glenn, Godwin, Ruben Jr., and Rico; daughters-in-law, Alona, Cecilia, and Victoria; and grandchildren: John Glenn, Andrei Godwin, and Giada Rose - all of whom he loved dearly. His love extended to his only surviving sibling, Marlobel, brother-in-law, Basil Langunero, sisters-in-law Norma and Lemer, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many people whom he had helped, treated, and inspired throughout his life.
