Rose Eleanor Mccormack

October 18, 1923 — December 15, 2018

Rose Eleanor Frank McCormack of Buena Park, California, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Eleanor was born October 18, 1923 in Cedaredge, Colorado, to Gustav Frederick Frank and Helen Florence Walsh. She had an older sister, Helen Catherine.

Shortly before Eleanor's fourth birthday, her father died suddenly, causing turmoil in her life. Eleanor's mother became a teacher and the family moved to Minturn, Colorado. After graduation from high school, Eleanor moved to Denver where she lived at the YWCA, met many lifelong friends there, and attended Barnes School of Commerce. Eleanor then went to work and met Denis McCormack, who was going to change her life forever. Denis invited Eleanor to go dancing to Big Band music, and she reluctantly said yes. After several dates, Denis left to join the Navy. On Valentine's Day 1944, an engagement ring arrived in the mail with a proposal. Eleanor said yes and waited almost two years for Denis to return from WW II. They were married June 15, 1946 and continued to dance, something they did for their entire married life, almost 63 years. Eleanor was a very supportive wife and mother. They also traveled the world, entertained and were good friends to all who knew them.

In 1964, the McCormack family, including daughter, Kathy, moved to Orange County. Eleanor worked for the US Department of Defense, USAF Quality Assurance for 20 years. She received Employee of the Quarter for her outstanding work ethic, excellent organization and team- player skills. Upon retirement, Eleanor volunteered another 20 years with St. Jude Medical Center Guild. Her driving force was to help others.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Katherine McClennen (William); grandchildren, Scott McClennen (Maria) and Emily McClennen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denis McCormack, grand-daughter, Allison McClennen and sister, Catherine Frank Scrivani.
