Rosa Elizabeth Mackay was born on August 30, 1950 in Lima, Peru. She was the fifth child born to her father Carlos Gregorio Guillermo Oquendo Fajardo and mother Guillermina Olga Azabache Casana. She has six siblings.
Rosa moved to the United States for a short time then returned to Peru. She met the love of her life, Cristobal Mackay, when she took her car into the Toyota dealership to get her car serviced in Peru. Shortly after meeting, Rosa returned to the United States for good and Cristobal followed a few months after. They were married in California and had 3 biological children together: Jacqueline, Chris Jr., and Edward.
Rosa loved to learn and took many courses to further her knowledge in things that interested her such as courses in etiquette and computer usage. She also took cosmetology classes and used those skills to cut and style her children's and husbands hair for many years.
Since the late 1990's Rosa has been a foster parent to over 35 children. She gave them love, a safe place to reside, and most importantly for her, she taught them the word of God and shared her love of the scriptures with them. She adopted 3 of the 35, Ronnie, Isaac, and Ruby whom she loved and treasured as if they were her own.
God was the most important thing in Rosa's life. She read from her scriptures daily and wrote prayers, testimonies, and scriptural verses that were important to her in her little book and notepads. She was a faithful woman and was not afraid to speak of God or the gospel. Her love and focus always centered around God and His Son Jesus Christ. Her greatest legacy was teaching everyone of faith and God's promise.
On March 3, 2024, Rosa returned to our Heavenly home. She was surrounded by her family whom she adored. She is survived by her husband, Cristobal Mackay, her six kids, Jackie (Albert), Chris Jr (Amber), Edward (Beatriz), Ronnie, Issac, and Ruby, and her grandchildren, Lillian, Josh, Belen, Jacob, and Cris. She will be missed, but we look forward to the day when we will see her again because we believe that Families are Forever!
