Rosa Garris

October 12, 1948 — January 23, 2026

Rosa Maria Garris, lovingly known as Rosi, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, in Glendale, California, after a brief illness. She was born on October 12, 1948, in Mexico City and her journey through life exemplified warmth, love, and an unwavering commitment to her community.

Rosi's dedication to the Latino community in Pasadena was profound. Her passion for education saw her serve as president of the Pasadena Scholarship Committee for Americans of Latino descent, where she played a pivotal role in providing scholarships to numerous high-achieving students. Through her collaborative spirit, she worked closely with influential figures such as Dr. Juan Francisco Lara, Assistant Dean of UCI, and many other educational leaders across Los Angeles and Orange County. Rosi's commitment to lifting others up through education remains one of her proudest accomplishments, alongside earning her bachelor's degree in Social Ecology from UCI at the remarkable age of 51.

Beyond her professional achievements, Rosi was known for her outgoing and loving personality. She had a unique ability to bring people together, hosting vibrant parties and family gatherings filled with laughter and joy. A fabulous cook, her renowned chile verde became a staple of these celebrations. Rosi's love for dance was apparent, as she could often be found moving to the rhythm with a wonderful smile that could light up any room.

Rosi is survived by her adoring husband, Richard Garris, and her talented daughters, Kristen Garris and Lawren Heinz. The love she shared with them will continue to resonate in their lives, just as her spirit brought life and unity to all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her, including the many friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and warmth. Rosi is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Carlos Armengol and Beatriz Armengol, whose legacy of love and strength shaped her life.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rosi’s remarkable life at a Funeral Service on February 17, 2026, at 12:30 PM, located at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills, Church of the Hills, in Los Angeles, CA.

In this time of grief, let us reflect on Rosi's incredible life and continue to honor her memory through commitment to our communities, the pursuit of education, and the love of family and friends. Rosi Garris, forever in our hearts, will be cherished by all who have been touched by her spirit.
