Romeo Calandria Derecho was born in Quezon Province, Philippines on July 21, 1933. He was the son of a farmer, who passed away at an early age. He was raised by his mother and extended family, along with his two brothers and sister. He worked hard for all that he had, including his education for which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. His work ethic and credentials enabled him to immigrate to the United States.

Romeo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He supported his extended family left in the Philippines, in addition to his wife and two children. Through his hard work and untiring devotion, they all prospered. He passed away on May 9, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. He is survived by his wife and two children, his nephews and niece, and his grandchildren â€“ all of whom will continue his legacy.
