Don Roman Amezquita, beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather & Brother was born in Jalisco, Mexico on February 29, 1932. He was the oldest of eleven children, his brothers Catarino, Salvador, Manuel, Samuel, Aristeo, and his sisters, Elodia, Graciela, Soledad, Navora, & Alicia all grew up very close and remained such to this day. He was raised a Roman Catholic, and served the Church for many years as an altar boy in the small town of La Capilla de Milpillas.

At a very early age, Don Roman demonstrated a very keen interest and ability in business. One of his first business ventures was breeding pigs. He then demonstrated a unique skill at woodworking, having worked as an apprentice for his uncle. As a carpenter, he made coffins, tables and chairs when he was only 13 years of age. This woodworking skill would serve him well later in his adult life. He always believed in saving a portion of what he earned and decided when the opportunity came and he had saved enough he would go to the United States.

After a short courtship, at age nineteen, he married Elisa Hernandez. He tried his luck at carpentry but it was not enough to support his family and soon after he immigrated to the United States, working on farms and in orchards throughout the state of California. Don Roman traveled back and forth from Mexico to the United States to visit Elisa and his children. In 1955 he went back to Mexico to bring his wife, Elisa Amezquita, along with their two children Carlos and Gricelda to the United States. In the years that followed, they had 4 more children, Nancy, Richard, Angelica and Roman Jr.

In 1968 he gave carpentry one last try and decided to open up furniture part manufacturing business called, Roman Empire Furniture Parts Mfg. The success of his this business allowed Don Roman to also invest in California real estate during the property boom of the 1970's. Don Roman loved business and looking for good deals while reading his newspaper was his past time. In the evenings after work, he relaxed from the day's work by reading the paper and the news. He was a self taught investor, and a great negotiator and by such continued to build his fortune and secured his family's future.

In the early 1990's, when foreign importers began to squeeze the profitability of domestic furniture manufacturers, Don Roman invested in tequila plantations in Mexico, and once again, took advantage of a booming industry.

In the past 20 years Don Roman revived his life and married Monica Reyes and had three daughters, Marlene, Flor, and Milagros. Where he dedicated to being a good loving father. He left a good legacy and taught good principles and succeeded in all adversities. He was a true example of struggle and perseverance.

Roman Amezquita truly lived the American Dream….a true rags to riches life story. He generously shared his success with his brothers and sisters in Mexico as well as family and friends in the United States. He helped many seeking his advice and support. Don Roman had a zest for living, and enjoyed many long conversations with family and friends regarding business ventures, politics, and life's many challenges. We have all been very blessed for having known Don Roman Amezquita, the patriarch of the Amezquita family. He will be greatly missed by all.
