Roger was born May 29, 1921 in Omaha Nebraska to Zorah Elizabeth Warrick and Frank Earl Garey. He attended Lincoln High School in Lincoln Nebraska, where he lettered in Tennis and graduated in 1939 with a FULL scholarship to the University of Nebraska. Roger was pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering when World War 2 started. Already in ROTC he enlisted with the Army Corps of Engineers where he rose to the rank of Captain. Roger spoke fluent German and attended the Nuremberg trials, working as a translator.
When he returned to Nebraska, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1947, the only person in the Chemical Engineering class! Had the war never happened, he would have graduated in 1943, and that is the year printed on his diploma. He married Georgia Easterly Holmes in 1948 in Omaha, and they moved to the Chicago area where he worked for Standard Oil, managing Bulk Sales and Lubricants Division until 1967 when he became Senior Vice President of Calumet Refining Company in Burnham Illinois. His 35 year marriage Georgia ended when she died Feb. 5, 1984
He was a past member of the American Petroleum Institute, Flossmoor Country Club in Illinois,and Woodhaven Country Club In Palm Desert. He was in Who's Who in Finance and Industry from 1975-1980. A life long Republican and he was a past patron of The Art Institute of Chicago. Roger was a man of deep faith who loved to study the bible. He was a member of Faith Community Church, Thousand Palms, California.
He married Patricia Milton Pugh in 1985 and retired in 1987. Roger and Patricia maintained homes in Flossmoor,Illinois and Palm Desert, California from 1995 to 2011. They made Palm Desert their sole home in 2011 and it was in Palm Desert that he died at 4:43am on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Patricia and Roger had just celebrated 31 years of marriage on October 3, 2011.
He is survived by his widow Patricia; his children Deborah Lynn Lovell and Roger Warren(Cheri) Garey;granddaughters Nicole and Kristen Garey. Step son Robert Wilson (Shelly) Pugh; grandchildren Robert Pugh, Samuel Pugh, Rachel Pugh, Evan Pugh. Step daughter Gay Ann (Tom) Lux, grandchildren Thomas Lux, Jenna Lux; His niece Cindy Heider Kaliff, nephew Garey Heider. His sister, Nancy Heider proceeded him in death.
