George Roderick Sherriffs
November 16,1938 – January 28, 2026
La Quinta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Roderick Sherriffs, known to all as Rod, on January 28, 2026, at Eisenhower hospital.
Rod was born on November 16, 1938, in Santa Monica, California, to George and Margaret Sherriffs. Both of his parents were born and raised in Scotland, and his father served in the Scottish army during World War I. The family eventually settled in West Los Angeles, where Rod was raised alongside his two older sisters, Ellen and Betty.
Rod attended Brentwood Elementary School, Emerson Junior High School and University High School, where he began forming the wide circle of friendships that would define his life. After college, Rod enlisted in the Army and served as a medic - a role well-suited for his calm presence, generosity of spirit, and genuine concern for others.
Following his military service, Rod embarked on a long and successful career in real estate. Rod married Kathlyn Ann DuPont (Kathy). Together they built a life filled with friends, laughter, and shared adventures. In 2010 Rod and Kathy moved from Manhattan Beach to Andalusia Golf Club in La Quinta, where Rod and Kathy quickly became a familiar and well-loved presence.
Rod had a gift that cannot be taught: he truly liked people and people instantly felt it. His quick wit, easy smile, and the rare ability to strike up a conversation with absolutely anyone. Whether on the golf course, the poker table, or simply passing time with friends, Rod made people feel welcome, included, and entertained. His friendships were many and enduring.
A devoted sports fan, Rod passionately supported his beloved Dodgers, Rams and Lakers, rarely missing a game and always ready with commentary delivered with humor and conviction.
Rod was predeceased by his wife Kathy in 2017 and is survived by his two sisters, Ellen Sparks and Betty Anderson, his stepson Tony Fire, his godson Jeff Jones, his nieces and nephews and a remarkably large circle of close friends who will miss his wit, warmth and friendship deeply.
