Robert S. Ryan, 65, born on June 28, 1951, passed away on November 19, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Ryan was raised in Wall Township and graduated from Wall High School where he served as Senior Class President and began his lifelong love of acting and singing. After graduating from Dartmouth College, he received his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School and began a 40-year career as an Attorney, Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor and Law Librarian. He retired from the Los Angeles law firm of Hill, Farrer & Burrill in 2013.
As a consummate performer, Mr. Ryan appeared in numerous plays, musicals, television shows, and feature films. He refused to be slowed by a cancer diagnosis and continued to perform with the LA Lawyers Philharmonic & Legal Voices, as both a soloist and member of the Choir. Their March 2017 concert will be dedicated in his honor.
Mr. Ryan underwent several medical trials that have proven significant in the fight against prostate cancer. He would selflessly say that while they may not help him, it could help someone else later. He was always the smartest man in any room and faced life with delicate balance of unwavering strength and humor.
Mr. Ryan was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Ryan. He is survived by his sisters Nancy L. Cook and her husband Christopher and Virginia M. Clevenger and her husband James both of Point Pleasant. He was a great inspiration to his four nieces, Robin L. Cook, Caitlyn R. Cook, Jamie E. Clevenger, and Jaclyn R. Clevenger, and great-niece Peyton Giordano. He will be dearly missed by his friends and colleagues, both on the East Coast and in Los Angeles.
A memorial service will be held at The Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church at Bay and Forman Avenues on December 10 at 11:00am, as well as on December 13th at The Colony Theater in Burbank, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic would be greatly appreciated.
