Robert Mellon, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Thousand Palms, CA, and is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marie Mellon. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Mellon and his first wife Georgia. Along with Marie, Bob is survived by his family; Terry (Wayne) Shurte, Bullhead City, AZ, Tom Mellon, Upland, CA, Tina (Bill) Nelson, Upland, CA, Tim Dawson, Cottonwood Cove, NV, Tom (Karen) Dawson, Fillmore, CA, Marisa Dawson, Victorville, CA. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Lisa, Celeste, Leighann, Doug, Courtney, Dylan, Christie, Tiffani, Dylan, Sammy, Mia and Tyson.
Bob graduated from UCLA in 1952 with a Bachelor of Economics, Accounting and went on to receive his Certificate to practice public accounting as a CPA. Carl Shuetz asked Bob to join his practice and the partnership became Shuetz & Mellon, CPA's. The practice served many businesses in the Inland Empire. In 1965, Rex Johnson was asked to join the practice which then became Shuetz, Mellon & Johnson. Upon Carl's retirement, the practice continued as Mellon and Johnson.
The practice became very successful and continued to grow. Bob belonged to many organizations and held elected offices in each of them. He was the President of both the Inland chapter of the California CPA Society and Inland Chapter of the Estate Planning Council, and was the President of the Fontana Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout his years, Bob became an accomplished skier and sailor. Bob also loved his many years living on the island of Maui. In the last few years, golf became his sport of choice. He was a long-time member of Red Hill Country Club and Ivy Ranch Country Club. He has several hole-in-ones to his credit. Bob also served our county in the Coast Guard.
Bob and Marie were devoted Episcopalians and were members of a church, no matter where they lived. Currently, they are members of St. Anthony's of the Desert Episcopal Church, Desert Hot Springs, CA.
A church service was held on Saturday for his church family and friends in the desert. On May 2, 2015 a Celebratory Luncheon will be held at Red Hill Country Club. For more information, please call 909-981-1155.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Robert Mellon to St. Anthony's Episcopal Church, 19990 Mountain View Road, Desert Hot Springs, CA 92240 for the creation of a Mellon Plaza on the grounds of the church, or your favorite charity.
