Van Nuys

Robert "Bob" McCann, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, in Van Nuys, California. Born on December 25, 1925, in Jackson, Tennessee, Bob lived a life filled with dedication, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family and community.

Bob began his career at Safeway markets, where he worked for approximately 25 years, eventually rising to the position of Produce Manager. In his 40s, he embraced a new challenge by enrolling in Court Reporting school, balancing work during the day and classes at night while raising a family on a single income. With perseverance and determination, he passed the exams and began his journey as a Court Reporter. In 1974, he took a bold step to establish his own business, Bob McCann & Associates, which continues to thrive over 50 years later.

A proud veteran, Bob served in the 100th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He earned several commendations, including the EAME Ribbon, Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge and Good Conduct Medal, recognizing his bravery and service.

Bob’s life was marked by cherished memories and a passion for the simple joys. He cherished family gatherings and vacations, like the many trips to Catalina, San Diego or Las Vegas.  He especially loved gatherings involving a good meal. Bob had a deep appreciation for the comforts of home-cooked food, relishing in the delights of burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, corn on the cob, garden-fresh tomatoes or just some chicken strips. A particular highlight was the year he and his father brought back a car full of BBQ and fireworks from Tennessee, turning a regular family 4th of July gathering, with benches lined up on the front lawn, into a spectacular celebration.

As a man with a big heart, Bob was welcoming and humorous, always ready to share a laugh but fiercely protective of those he loved. His temper could flare if anyone crossed him or his family, yet this was a testament to his loyalty. He found pleasure in working with his hands, whether it was planting flowers and vegetables in the yard or capturing life's moments through photography. We would often joke that Dad was Hollywood's earliest Paparazzi as he began his love of photography taking snapshots of the stars.  Later in life, he embraced technology, learning to use computers and photo editing tools, which reignited his lifelong interest in photography.

Bob’s greatest pride and joy came from his family. He often reflected on the happiness he found in marrying Thelma, the love of his life, whom he would see come into the Safeway market until she finally noticed him and let him "catch" her while walking home from her market visit. He considered himself fortunate to have shared his life with her until her passing in 2015. Apart from his beloved wife, he leaves behind sons Dave and Steve McCann, daughter-in-law Melinda McCann, and grandchildren Kelly and Kevin McCann, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and dedication.

A visitation in honor of Robert "Bob" McCann will take place on July 18, 2025, at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on July 19, 2025, at the Church of the Hills, also located at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills at 3:00 PM.

Bob McCann's contributions to his family, career, and community will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched. His legacy of hard work, love, and loyalty remains a guiding light for those who knew and loved him.
