Robert Frank Matsie, 95, born on November 24, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, passed away November 21, 2017. He resided in Placentia, California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, CA.

Sgt. Robert Matsie served in the Marine Corps in World War II from March 1942 to October 1945. He served 46 missions and flew 233 hours as a Gunner in a dive bomber in the South Pacific/Solomon Islands. He was the proud wearer of the Presidential Citation for Action in the Guadal Canal area. He was stationed at El Toro Air Force Base in Orange County. After Bob's discharge, he and Mary returned to Chicago and bought their first home in the beautiful suburb of River Forest and raised their family. He worked in the produce business and was employed with Dominick's Finer Foods until 1972 when he was offered a position in California. It was there he happily enjoyed the sunshine and better climate, calling California his home until passing.

Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of almost 73 years Mary Margaret Matsie and his first born son Robert Jr.. Bob is survived by his loving daughter Donna Matsie Berg; son Michael Matsie; grandchildren Lisa Reilly (Chicago, IL), Justin Berg, Jessica Berg Wells, Michelle and Melissa Matsie; great-grandsons Vincent Robert Matsie, and Jackson Reilly (Chicago, IL). Bob had numerous beloved friends and his cherished church family from St. Michael's Abbey.

A Mass at his home church St. Michael's Abbey in Silvarado Canyon, CA is scheduled for December 30th at 10 AM. There will be a Memorial Luncheon to follow in Mission Viejo, CA. In leiu of flowers, Bob's most cherished charity was St. Jude's in Memphis, Tenn. He said, "It is all about helping the little children."
