Robert Dee Johnson

Robert "Bob" Dee Johnson, 89, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2021, at his longtime family home in Encinitas, California.

Born on February 2, 1932, to Charles "Dee" and Helen (Martin) Johnson in Marion, Ohio, Bob was a hardworking and adventurous child. After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1954, he entered the United States Air Force as an officer.

While stationed in Germany, he met Miss Nancy Wallace of Pasadena, California, on New Year's Eve 1959 and they were married 6 months later in Germany. The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage in June of this year.

Bob served all over the world in the USAF for 20 years, including a tour as the transportation manager for the Da Nang Air Base during the Vietnam War. He was last assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. Bob retired from the USAF in 1974 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Moving his family to Encinitas, California, he oversaw the building of their family home, which was completed in 1977. Bob enjoyed playing golf, watching baseball, and playing cards with his grandchildren. All are blessed with wonderful memories of dear "Poppa".

Surviving with his wife, Nancy, are his daughter, Laurie, and son-in-law James Arroyo; son, James and daughter, Karin Washington; 4 grandchildren, Earl, Evangeline, Eric, and Elianna.

A Celebration of Life service will be celebrated at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.
