Haverhill: Robert A. Goudreault, 81, of the Ward Hill section of Haverhill, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at his home.
Born in Haverhill, son of the late Ernest "Sam"' and Leona (Poirier) Goudreault, he attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and Haverhill High School. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served as a Petty Officer 2nd Class aboard the USS Murray and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.
Mr. Goudreault formerly owned and operated a Gulf service station in Duston Square in Haverhill and was later employed as a power plant engineer at Arlington Mills. At the time of his retirement in 1992 he had been employed for twenty years at Western Electric Co and A T & T Technologies as a power plant engineer. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers and held a pipefitters license, a nuclear operators license and a power engineer license.
A member of Sacred Hearts Parish of Bradford and a former member of Saint Joseph Parish, Mr. Goudreault enjoyed vegetable farming on his property and tending to his animals. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and an accomplished woodworker and cabinetmaker. He especially enjoyed playing cards, mostly 45 and Rummy with his large extended family.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Geraldine L. (Legare) Goudreault, daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Paul Kamins of Lancaster, NH, and Janice and Frank Legare of Holden, MA, sons and daughter-in-law, Robert A., Jr. and Leesa Goudreault of East Hampstead, NH, and John G. Goudreault of Derry, NH, brothers, Ernest "Sonny"' Goudreault of Groveland, Alfred Goudreault of Haverhill, Wilfred Goudreault of Essex, Edward Goudreault of Haverhill and Raymond Goudreault of Haverhill, a sister, Lillian (Goudreault) (German) Cherneski of Haverhill, grandchildren, Ellie Thornton, Julia Kamins, Joel Legare, James Goudreault, Sarah Goudreault, Arrianna Goudreault, Jacqueline Goudreault, Aliceia Goudreault, and Lucas Goudreault, two great grandchildren, Ava and Connor Thornton, an aunt, and several nieces , nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Goudreault
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, December 1, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Sacred Hearts Church, South Main St., Bradford. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
