Robert Busch Bakovic

Robert Busch Bakovic passed away at home in Long Beach on August 28th.  Bob grew up in North Long Beach and graduated from Long Beach Jordan High School in 1964.  During his high school years he played on the  B football team and was also on the swim and water polo teams.  After high school he enrolled in Long Beach City College (LBCC), spent four years in the Air Force, and later completed an Associate degree at LBCC.   Another highlight of these years was drag racing at the Lions race track in Long Beach.  In 1973 Bob received a business degree from CSUF.  Bob worked as an auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency for 28 years, attaining the level of Supervisory Auditor. He married Sallie in 1982,  and together they had one daughter, Kimberly.  As a family they enjoyed several wonderful trips to NYC, Canada, Hawaii and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.  He spent his retirement years enjoying several sports (along with betting), attending the 2004 Olympics in Athens, playing cards, listening to music, and reading science fiction and fantasy.  Throughout his life he also enjoyed his pets including his beloved dog Dumdum and many cats.

He is survived by his wife, Sallie; daughter, Kim and son-in-law, Danny Burch; two grandchildren—August and Seager Burch; a brother, John Bakovic; a niece, Amanda and husband, Pierce Ellis; and his cat, Zahara.

Urn placement is at 2PM on September 24th (Bob’s birthday) at Long Beach Forest Lawn.  Family and close invited friends are welcome.  Everyone is invited to a celebration of life gathering to be held at 11AM on September 28th at the Surfside Colony beach adjacent to daughter Kim’s home.   Some of Bob’s favorite food and beverages will be served.
