Rita De Vera Lacuesta transitioned into Eternal Life on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 80. She resided in Buena Park, California, at the time of her passing. Rita was born on May 22, 1944, in Urdaneta, Philippines, to her beloved parents Josefa Drequito De Vera and Tomas Gumtang De Vera. Rita was the fourth of five children, which included her older sister Susana, her older brothers Marcelino and Juan, and her youngest brother Raymundo. After graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marian College of Nursing in 1966, Rita followed her dreams and moved to Chicago, Illinois, where fate brought her together with the love of her life, Diosdado Lacuesta Jr., in 1969. Together, they celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage, during which Rita welcomed three children: Rommel Jon, Roderick James, and Rochelle Joy, whom she raised with great care and dedication. Rita's compassion extended beyond her family, as she dedicated over 50 years of her life to serving as a registered nurse. Her commitment to her vocation was matched only by her profound religious faith. As a devout Catholic, she attended mass regularly at St. Pius V Catholic Church, engaged in daily prayer, and placed great importance on ensuring that all her children received a Catholic education from first through twelfth grade at St. Pius V Catholic School, St. John Bosco High School, and St. Joseph High School.
In her leisure time, Rita found joy in various hobbies, including tending to her cherished garden, collecting Capodimonte, and solving word search puzzles. Throughout her life, she forged meaningful, lasting friendships with colleagues and fellow parishioners, creating a strong sense of community around her. Beyond being a loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend, Rita's greatest accomplishment came from her role as a grandmother to her five grandchildren: Ronin Jun, Marsoleine Nicolette, Eleanor Jean, Remington Jax, and Estelle Rox. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, which brought her immeasurable joy watching them grow. Rita De Vera Lacuesta will be remembered fondly for her vibrant personality, boundless generosity, unwavering faith, and unmatched sense of humor. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
