Rishab Kumar
Gupta
Apr 18, 1943 — Jun 22, 2026
Rishab Gupta was born in Nagina, India, in 1943 and built a life defined by purpose. The only member of his family to leave India, he came to the United States to pursue graduate studies at Rutgers University and Yale University, dedicating himself to a life of science in service of others.
As a Professor of Oncology at UCLA, Rishab advanced the field of early cancer detection and became a beloved teacher to generations of medical students and scientists.
Though his efforts earned deep respect, he sought no recognition beyond the quiet satisfaction of doing meaningful work well.
That same humility shaped his life at home. A devoted husband to Mridula, loving father to Arvind and Anita, and playful grandfather to Rohan, Taj, Lukka, and Freyja, he built a stable and generous life through kindness, resourcefulness, and sacrifice. Throughout his life, and to his final breaths, he deeply cared for his family, ensuring they were protected.
Rishab is survived by his family, his students, and a better world shaped by his example.
"His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every student he inspired, and every act of love carried forward by his family."
