January 12, 1961 — April 17, 2026

Richard Brian Zymkowitz (65 years old) was born on January 12,1961 in Cold Spring, New York to Edward and Marilyn Zymkowitz and went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2026.

Richard (more commonly referred to as Rich, Richie and Zimmy) was one of six children. At the age of 9 his parents moved the family to Holland, PA where he spent the rest of his childhood and adolescent years. He graduated from Council Rock High School in Newton, PA in 1979. After high school he attended East Stroudsburg University for two years before taking a vacation to Southern California to visit his good friend and then decided to stay. He initially got a job at Jack-in-the-Box but that was short-lived after being held up in the middle of the night. Concerned about his safety, his roommate and buddy got him a job working with him as a Concrete Pumper at Aloha Concrete Pumping. That was the beginning of what would be his professional craft and occupation for the majority of his life. He went on his own and partnered with two other associates to form So Cal Concrete Pumping in 1988.

Rich met his future wife Marie in 1983 and they married four years later in 1987 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Tarzana, CA and were married for 38 years. They settled in the West San Fernando Valley where Rich and Marie raised their two beautiful daughters (Danielle and Madison). Rich formed lasting friendships in all aspects of his life, from childhood, to extended family, to work friendships, to his daughters many school and sports activities, and beyond. His daughters were his greatest pride and joy. Nearly every vacation he took was related to family/friends (most notably houseboat trips with the Lesser Family), but the majority were to attend softball games or tournaments.

In 2019, Rich and Marie moved to Frisco, TX for Marie to pursue a job opportunity. At that time Rich decided to step away from construction, and he worked for Calloway’s Nursery. He gained great knowledge about plants and landscaping there, so his family and friends affectionately gave him the nickname of “Tree Whisperer”.

In 2023 Rich gained a son-in-law (Pierce) and in late 2024 Rich became a grandfather for the first time. The birth of his grandson brought him great joy and created a new special place in his heart. He was proud to be Zayn’s Pop Pop and relished the fact that everyone recognized how much his grandson looked like him.

Rich is survived by his wife Marie, daughters Danielle Zymkowitz and Madison Richardson (Pierce Richardson), grandson Zayn Richardson, siblings Edward Zymkowitz, Michael Zymkowitz (Ruth), Bob Zymkowitz, Tom Zymkowitz and Andrea Morris (Bill),18 nieces/nephews and10 great nieces/nephews. He also leaves behind many other loved relatives and friends.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Zymkowitz and Marilyn Zymkowitz and his beloved brother-in-law Paul Absy.

A celebration of life gathering in Frisco, TX will be on May 9, 2026. Rich will be laid to rest on May 29, 2026 at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills. A celebration of life gathering will be the following day on May 30, 2026 in West Hills, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Rich’s memory be made to Our Lady of the Valley School in Canoga Park, CA. Donations can be made via Zelle (crusaderdonations@olvcrusaders.org) or by mailing a check payable to Our Lady of the Valley School to 22041 Gault St., Canoga Park, CA 91303.
