Richard "Rick" Rice, 71, was born on December 6, 1952, in Arkansas to Clarence "CJ" Rice and Veda Mitchell. He had two older brothers, Jack and Michael Rice and one younger brother, Steve Rice. Rick's family was raised in Garden Grove, CA where he and his brothers were all very active in athletics. Rick was an avid and very successful student athlete throughout high school and college. He played Varsity football, wrestling, and track at Santiago High School (Class of 1971). A few of his athletic accomplishments include running a 10 second 100 yard dash at Santiago High School and later setting a California state JC rushing record at Golden West college (1971-72).  Rick continued to play football in college and earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Political Science.

In 1980, he married Carole Gosselin and joined the US Army. Rick and Carole had two children, Michele Morales (age 43) and Eric Rice (40). Rick served 4 years in the United States Army. Part of his service included a station in West Germany where he picked up some conversational German and many lifelong friends. When returning to the States Rick continued to serve others through careers in law enforcement,  pipeline construction, and eventually he returned to school to earn a teaching credential to teach History. He was always passionate about helping others and serving in his community. One of Rick's greatest passions was coaching. Throughout the years Rick coached several Pop Warner Football teams, Little League teams, and High School Football. He was truly passionate about the game of football and was deeply knowledgeable in the areas of strength and conditioning. Football was not his only passion, Rick was a true family man. He was a dedicated husband of 44 years and he and Carole enjoyed fishing, hiking, riding on sea doos and enjoying a good movie. He also enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, making them laugh and watching them do what they love.

Rick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carole, his daughter, Michele and her husband, Matthew Morales, their two boys, Madden (9) and Mckenzie (6) as well as his son, Eric Rice, his wife Natalie and their daughters, Alex (22) and Serafina (15). Rick passed away on May 12, 2024 after a long fight with gastrointestinal issues. He was at peace with our Lord when he passed. Rick and Carole resided in La Quinta, CA at the time of his passing. The family is honoring Rick's wishes and will be forgoing any funeral or formal memorial services.
