Richard Penn, 91, born on September 30, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, left us on January 06, 2025. He was surrounded by his loved one’s, including his brother Dr. Gerald Penn and sister-in-law Dr. Judy Caron. Richard and his wife, Jean, have lived in Rancho Mirage for the last 25 years, embracing all the community has to offer.
He was a devoted soldier, father, husband, adventurer, and hero to all who loved him, including his wife of 53 years, Jean Penn, and his four children: Kathy Penn, Patti Roggenkamp, Julie Penn, and Rick “Arch” Penn. He cherished his grandchildren and recently had the pleasure of meeting his great-grandson.
Following his service as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War, Richard graduated from UCLA and worked as an engineer before pursuing a career in law, ultimately petitioning for admission to practice in the early 1970s. He served as a judge pro tem in both Los Angeles and Riverside Counties and was honored as Los Angeles County's Volunteer of the Year on April 29, 1992.
He had a passion for travel and sports, and was himself a skilled athlete, having won numerous tournaments and trophies, including the Los Angeles Senior Olympics Gold for racquetball. He took up tennis in his 60s and continued playing until his late 80s, when he reluctantly had to put down his racket. Nevertheless, he rekindled his long-standing enthusiasm for football, which dated back decades and many seasons of Rams football games with his children.
However, his primary interest was traveling. Before one trip was completed, he was planning the next. His wanderlust took him to nearly every continent and country, from Egypt to Peru, and returns to his favorites, including Positano.
Happy travels, our beloved adventurer!
