Haverhill: Richard F. "Dick" Matterson, 82, of Haverhill, died December 1, 2016 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton, following a brief illness.

Born in Haverhill, son of the late Anthony and Margaret (O'Connell) Matterson, he attended Haverhill Public Schools and the former Haverhill Trade School. Mr. Matterson was a well- known building contractor in the Haverhill area for many years and was responsible for the building of scores of homes in Haverhill and Southern New Hampshire.

A licensed pilot and avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, boating, lobster fishing, waterskiing, snowmobiling and skiing, hydroplane boat racing, motorcycling and trips to Martha's Vineyard. He was kind to animals and especially to less fortunate animals abandoned in the wild.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-seven years, Carol Ann (Troian) Matterson, a son and daughter-in-law Richard C. and Tracy Matterson of Danville, NH, daughters and sons-in-law, Caroline J. Matterson and Charles Hall of Haverhill, Deborah R. Senter of Haverhill, Sheriley A. and Thomas Farrand of Haverhill, Helen A. and Ronald Shippie of Danville and Cheryl A. Meola of Haverhill, four grandchildren, James R. Matterson, Jared R. Senter, James Shippie and Jason Shippie, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, David Matterson, and sisters, Roseann McCarthy, and Margaret Brown.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10a.m. in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Saint James Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Haverhill Boy's and Girl's Club, 55 Emerson St. Haverhill, MA.
