Richard Joel Hoffman, a man of unwavering dedication and intellect, passed away on January 4th, 2024 in La Quinta, California at the age of 83. Born on November 17, 1940 in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts to Sidney and Mary Hoffman. Richard battled dyslexia growing up, but it never stopped him from pursuing and completing his Bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University, and his MBA from the Harvard Business School, Class of 1970.
Richard embarked on an illustrious career on Wall Street, serving as Chief Investment Strategist at Merrill Lynch, President of RJ Hoffman and Co. Inc., and President of AIG Global Investors. Richard indeed left an indelible mark on the financial world.
Richard’s professional success was only matched by his deep devotion to his family. Richard shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife Sheila. He and Sheila were members of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun of Short Hills, New Jersey wherrwhere their presence was felt and cherished for many years.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Richard was a man of diverse interests. Golf, movies, history, and savoring delicious meals brought him joy. His thirst for knowledge and his love for other cultures, led him to travel extensively to Europe, Asia, and South America. One of his favorite places to visit was Hawaii, particularly the island of Maui.
A member of the esteemed Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, New Jersey, The Palms Golf Club and PGA West in La Quinta, CA, Richard found joy in the camaraderie and competitive spirit of golf games with dear friends.
Richard’s impact extended far beyond his immediate circle. His wisdom and generosity changed the course of many lives. Richard will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, and his ability to positively influence the lives of those around him.
Richard was predeceased by his wife Sheila in 2023 and his son David in 1978. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Leisten (Marshall) of Palm Desert, California, his son Robert Hoffman (Julia) of Marietta, Georgia, and his cherished grandsons, David, Jacob, Zane and Sacha.
