Richard Elden Gilbert

September 18, 1936 — January 6, 2021

Richard (Dick) Elden Gilbert, age 84 of Upland California, went home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2021. Dick is survived by his high school sweetheart, Kay Cynthia (Patterson) Gilbert; they were married for 63 years. One of the greatest joys of Dick's life was to help raise a young girl, Ako Yonezawa, when she came from Japan as an exchange student. She was like a daughter to Dick and Kay and she called them her American parents.
Dick was born on September 18, 1936, in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He and Kay moved to California in 1960 after being honorably discharged from the US Air Force. Active in the commercial banking industry for many years, Dick ended his career as principal of D&K Associates. He was also a member of the Ontario Elks Lodge, and served on the Board of Trustees of San Antonio Community Hospital.
Dick was a devoted husband and community builder. He helped many businesses as well as many people in the community. He was also a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects. He was very well-liked by many people and he will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be held at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, on Monday, March 1st at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers please make your donation in memory of Dick Gilbert, to the Elks National Foundation in care of the Ontario Elks Lodge.
