Richard G. "Dick" Fournier, 72, a resident of Haverhill for most of his life, died on Christmas Day at his home from natural causes.
Born in Lawrence, son of the late Albert and Blanche (Lemoine) Fournier, he moved to Haverhill as a child and attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and Lawrence Central Catholic High School. He served as a Private First Class the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a marksman and rifleman and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Fournier was an explosives engineer employed at Massachusetts Electric Co. which is now National Grid, for many years until his retirement. He was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill, The Wilbur M. Comeau Post of the American Legion and the Bradford Athletic Club.
A devoted father and grandfather, he most enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and was a great supporter at his grandson's football and baseball games. An avid reader, he also enjoyed playing golf at Granite Fields in Kingston and bowling in a league at Pilgrim Lanes. He was an avid horse racing fan and, especially enjoyed trips to Saratoga Springs with his friends.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters and sons-in-law, Faith R. and Steven Blegstad of Bradford, and Nadine A.M. and Kevin Lyons of Sandown, NH, his sons and daughter-in-law, Chet Fournier of Lewistown, PA, and Daryl A. and Pamela Fournier of Amesbury, his five grandchildren, Spencer Fournier, Gillian Fournier, Hunter Fournier, Grace Lyons, and Owen Lyons, his brothers, Paul "Al" Fournier of Manchester, NH, J. Gerard Fournier of Kansas City, MO, and Robert J. Fournier of Groveland, his sisters, Rita B. Thompson of East Hampstead, NH, Lucille Kemp of Groveland and Claire Desmarais of Hampstead, NH, his former wife Betty (Stetson) Fournier of Sandown, and several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Normand J. Fournier, Henry P. Fournier, and Joseph G. Fournier and sisters Helene Beier and Louise Howland.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Thursday at 9a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial a 10a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill, and concluding with the rendering of Military Honors.
