Haverhill, MA: Richard H. Dupre, 85, of Haverhill died on Monday, September 23, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born, raised, and educated in Exeter, NH, son of the late Francis and Marie (St. Pierre) Dupre, he graduated Exeter Boy's High School with the Class of 1946. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal, The Republic of Korea Unit Citation, and The Good Conduct Medal. He continued his service in the Air Force Reserves and was discharged with thirty years of service and the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in 1978.
Mr. Dupre worked as a carpenter first for the Boston Navy Yard and later at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and retired in 1986. A member of St. John the Baptist Parish, he enjoyed model railroading, dancing, especially the polka, leather crafting, puzzles, and playing cards.
A member and past Master of Saggahew Lodge AF&AM, he was also a member and Past Commander of The Haverhill Commandery, a member and Past High Priest of the York Rite Haverhill Council Pentucket Chapter, a member of The Shriners, and Past Grand Warder of the Appending Bodies of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine (Felker) Dupre, two sons, James F. Dupre and his wife Tracey, and Thomas M. Dupre and his wife Tricia, three daughters, Patricia A. Gagalis, Paula M. Brown and her companion Frank Zarrella, and Theresa R. Wilson and her husband Scott, all of Haverhill, a sister, Anita Bisson of Goffstown, NH, 9 grandchildren, Nicholas Brown, Richard Dupre III, Johanna Gagalis, Elizabeth Brown, Jeremy Gagalis, Jonathan Gagalis, Emma Dupre, Sarah Dupre, and Aiden Dupre, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Richard H. Dupre II and his grandson Jason Dupre.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, September 27, 2013, at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist, Haverhill. Burial with military honors will follow in Walnut Cemetery.
