Atkinson, NH:  Richard Alan Chavers, 75, of Atkinson, NH, died Saturday, October 27, 2012, surrounded by his family at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, MA.

He was born February 27, 1937 in Oakwood, TX, son of the late George H. and Mary K. (Hester) Chavers.  After moving to Indiana, he graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School, Indianapolis  in 1955.  He  received his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959 from Purdue University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

He was employed at the former Western Electric Company and A T & T Technologies for thirty'seven years and later for Vectron International.  His favorite job was working as a substitute teacher for the Timberlane Regional School District following his retirement.  A resident of Atkinson, NH for forty years, he was a long time member of the Atkinson Congregational Church and member of its Board of Trustees and Christian Education Committee. He was also a member of Demolay, the Country Pond Fish and Game Club, where he served as a Range Officer, the Dalton Gang, Major Waldron Sportsman's Association of Barrington, NH and the National Single Action Shooting Society.

In his younger years, he served as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 95 of Atkinson and was one of the organizers and first president of the Timberlane Music Association.

Mr. Chavers was an avid reader who loved the Boston Red Sox and Celtics and traveled extensively world-wide during his career.  He and his wife, Bernice, enjoyed vacations in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Bernice Clair (Joyce) Chavers; a son, David Alan Chavers and his girlfriend, Christine Marotte of Nashua, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Clair and David C. Ambrosio of Atkinson, NH; two beloved granddaughters, Katherine Clair Ambrosio of Atkinson, NH and Cheyenne Virginia Chavers of Wakefield, MA; and a sister, Katherine Elaine Royal of Murfreesboro, TN.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, November 1, 2012, from 4 to 7 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow Village, Plaistow, NH.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012, at 1:00 PM at the Atkinson Congregational Church, 101 Main St., Route 121, Atkinson, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dick's name may be made to the Timberlane Music Association, Richard A. Chavers, P.O. Box 420, Plaistow, NH 03865 or to the Atkinson Congregational Church, UCC, 101 Main St., Atkinson, NH 03811.
