Obituary of Mr. Cheung Kim Long (aka Richard Chang)

Mr. Chang, joined his eternal ancestral home on Sunday, January 17, 2021. He was 68 years old. He lived a full and wonderful life that began in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and finally to the United States.

He was born on January 15, 1953 in Cambodia to his beloved parents, Zhang Ring Dou and Cheung Ba Niang. He was the youngest brother in a family of three brothers and one sister.

In 1974, he met and fell deeply in love with a beautiful and strong willed woman who would become his future loving and supportive wife, Pheng Lim. She loved him for his charming and infectious personality, his warm and gentle heart, his devotion towards whomever he came across with and not to mention his good looks along with his always genuine smile. They married a short year later which culminated to a blissful forty five years of marriage. To further their joy, they welcomed their first daughter, Ya Linn (Linn) a year into their marriage. But due to war and political turmoil of that time, they moved to Chau Doc, Vietnam where they welcomed their second precious daughter, Ya Minn (Jazminn) to ease the pain of leaving a country in which they both loved. Once again, due to further war in that region in Vietnam, he braved the journey and guided his now young family of four in hopes of a better and more fulfilling life, they made their way to Su-ngai Kolock, Thailand. Here they welcomed their youngest and only son, Tristan, before immigrating to The United States, where they settled and could finally call it home.

Mr. Chang was a talented chef. He is loved and remembered by all for his fine culinary crafts. He was a devoted and loving husband, a gentle father and grandfather who could never speak the word "no" to any of them. He taught them their values and to dream big through his actions and his few choice words that were always spoken with love and care.

He loved traveling and studying the world and its views and would never give up a chance to travel with his wife. He enjoyed great Jazz music and would always look forward to having his family together. His hobbies included good food and drinks shared with his family and friends, collecting watches to tinker with, admiring fancy cars and he especially loved teasing his grandchildren among other things.

Mr. Chang lived a fulfilling life. He lives on in the hearts and minds of his wife, children and grandchildren. We are beyond blessed to have such a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the salt of the Earth and will forever be missed.
