Atkinson, NH: Richard R. Canales, 79, of Atkinson and a former resident of Danville, NH from 1978 to 1982, died on February 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at Holy Family Hospital, Methuen.
Born on July 8, 1936 in Somerville, MA, son of the late Cecilio and Cordelia (LaFave) Canales, he was raised in Somerville and attended Somerville High School until he moved to Williamstown, MA. Mr. Canales served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class.
Mr. Canales was employed as an industrial electrician and was a member of Local 7 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
A member of St. Anne's Parish in Hampstead and an accomplished illustrator, Mr. Canales enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and deep sea fishing. He coached youth baseball in Danville for many years and most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruth E. (VanZandt) Canales, a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen R. and Shallon Canales of Sandown, two daughters and sons-in-law, Terese F. and Troy E. Young of Sandown, and Christine M. and David M. Augusta, Jr. of Sandown, two brothers, Daniel Canales of Rutland, VT, and George Canales of North Adams, MA, and ten grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Amelia, Colin, Andrew, Aaron, Emily, Kane, Isabella, and Lena. He was predeceased by his grandson, David M. Augusta III, and his brothers Rudolph Canales and Cecilio Canales, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Canales's Life Celebration on Wednesday, February 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anne Church, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH.
