Rhonda Lee Griffin

February 7, 1957 — December 25, 2018

Rhonda Lee Griffin is survived by Mother Clenora McQueen, brothers Russ McQueen (Betty McQueen), and Ron McQueen. Rhonda's husband Gary Griffin of 35 years, and their two daughters, Doralee Newman (David Newman) and Karilyn Griffin, and three grandkids, Davey, Shelby, and Harlee.
Rhonda was born February 7th, 1957 in Long Beach, California to Bud (E.L.) and Clenora McQueen. She grew up in Lakewood with her two brothers, Russ and Ron. Rhonda met her best friend, Sandi Field, at the age of 12 in junior high and to this day they are still best friends (more like sisters). Rhonda's daughters grew up calling her "Aunt" and now the grandkids know Sandi only as "Aunt Sandi." In high school at Lakewood High, Rhonda and her horse Pie'D, of 17 years, were the school's mascot. Rhonda and Pie'D won many trophies, medals, and ribbons doing competitions and shows together.
In 1982 Rhonda and Gary started dating and got married in 1983 when they found out they were pregnant with Doralee. They moved to Cypress in 1984 and had Karilyn in 1986.
Softball became Rhonda's life in the late 80's thru the 90's. Doralee and Karilyn played ball while Rhonda managed the snack bar at CGSL for 14 years. She was known as the "Snack Bar Queen." Rhonda made many friends and great memories. Everyone loved her for her laughs, jokes, and crazy times.
Rhonda worked at the Angel Stadium from 2000 until she started dialysis for kidney failure in 2010. From that point on she only lived for her three grand-babies, Davey (12), Shelby (5), and Harlee (1). She always said, "I wish we could have our grandkids before our own kids." Family was everything to Rhonda.
The last three years of Rhonda's life were the most difficult for her. She became blind in one eye, dialysis was getting harder with all the extra procedures, and she was not independent anymore, which was the hardest of them all for her. She had to use a walker to get from point A to B and Gary helped her with everything else.
Rhonda died on December 25th, 2018 in her home with Gary by her side. She would want us to remember all the great times we had with her, her laugh, and smile too. She is in no more pain or suffering and now with her papa and other family members she has missed in the past years.
Live, Love, Laugh...
