Obituary for Reynaldo Balangue,
by Phillip Balangue
Reynaldo Balangue affectionately known as Rey, passed away on November 11, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 74. Born on October 5, 1950, in the serene town of Marinduque, Rey was a luminary whose passion for music illuminated the lives of many. From a tender age, he embraced the art of playing the bass guitar, later showcasing his extraordinary talent as he performed in various corners of the world, including the tumultuous landscapes of Vietnam and the vibrant cultures of Japan and South Korea. His unwavering love for music, particularly his fondness for the Beatles, served as both a refuge and inspiration throughout his life.
Rey was more than a musician; he was a gentle and hardworking man whose kindness was evident in every endeavor he undertook. He was a loving father, a dedicated grandfather, and a wonderful brother who exhibited a spirit of generosity that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Despite the health challenges that life threw his way, Rey faced them with remarkable resilience, continually expressing his desire to perform alongside his beloved band. His unyielding spirit and passion for music shone brightly, inspiring those around him, even during the most trying times.
He cherished the moments spent with his children—Donrich, Dean, and Sharry—who along with his grandchildren: Johna, Kyana, King, Jerard, AJ, and Gabriel, filled his later years with unforeseen happiness. These relationships brought him immense joy and purpose, reinforcing the notion that family was the cornerstone of his existence. Rey took immense pride in the accomplishments of his family, especially as his children and grandchildren migrated to the United States and excelled in their educational pursuits.
Rey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thai Tsing; his mother, Rosalina; and his siblings, including sisters Bing and Min, and his brother Eddie Balangue, along with sister Thelma. The loss of such cherished family members weighed heavily on his heart, yet he remained a steadfast source of support and love for those he left behind his youngest brother Phillip and sister Lorna .
