Retha Gennece Newman

Retha Gennece Newman, 92, born on September 12, 1924, in Arkansas passed away July 29, 2017. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California.

Retha was born Retha Gennece Gray in Brockwell, Arkansas. She was married to C. B. Newman for 43+ years. They married in Wellington, Texas, moved to Mesa, Arizona, before ultimately settling in Burbank, California. C. B. Passed away in 1985.

Retha was a busy wife and mother to six children: Bob, Evelyn, Debbie, Ron, Patti, and Tom. Retha was very much like the Proverbs 31 woman who was busy all the time with her husband, children, church and school activities. She was very proud of all of her children and encouraged each one in their special gifts. Retha spent her retirement years after C B's passing in Poway, California, working diligently in the Senior Center. She managed the Senior Center store and spent many joyful hours with other seniors making gifts for sale of crochete, knitting, and quilting. She especially loved knitting caps for the newborns at the hospital. Her most satisfying hours were spent giving to others whether for family members or people she knew along her special journey of life.

No matter whether Retha was in a store, at church, or even during her hospitalizations, she always had her beautiful and ready smile to share with everyone.
