In Loving Memory of Resurreccion "Rheztie" Surell
Resurreccion Surell, affectionately known as Rheztie, passed away on the morning of April 23, 2025, at the age of 71. Her life was one of deep love, quiet strength, and lasting impact.
Born on April 18, 1954, in Manila, Philippines, Rheztie's journey was marked with dedication to both family and service. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1973, she married her beloved husband Robert, and soon after, they immigrated to the United States to begin a new life together.
Rheztie was a nurturing and devoted homemaker whose warmth made everyone feel at home. A lifelong learner, she became a registered nurse through Los Angeles City College and briefly served with compassion as a nurse at Children's Hospital. Her academic journey continued as she earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from California State University, Los Angeles, followed by both a Master's and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.
She was an active member of the Kayumanggi Lion’s Club and proudly served as president for one term. Her leadership and generosity left a lasting impact on all who worked with her, reflecting her deep commitment to helping others and building community.
Rheztie is survived by her loving husband Robert, her father, two brothers, one sister, and many adoring nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She was a treasured presence in their lives - always gracious, always kind.
Though she faced the challenges of kidney disease, Rheztie never let it stop her from living life to the fullest. She found joy in shopping, exploring the world with her friends, and, most of all, spending time with her family. Her spirit, sense of adventure, and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers and monetary donations, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Kidney Foundation in honor of Rheztie's memory.
