Renato Standish Colantoni

August 31, 1944 — October 1, 2022

Renato "Ren" Standish Colantoni passed away peacefully in Burbank, CA on October 1, 2022, with his wife of 42 years, Mary Marca Colantoni, by his side and surrounded by his five stepchildren. Ren was born on August 31, 1944, in Portland, OR to his loving parents Amelio Colantoni and Dorothy Sigler Colantoni. Amelio and Dorothy were traveling the country producing and performing operas while Ren was raised by his grandparents. When he was five, his parents settled with him in Hollywood, California. He attended Marshall High School (Class of 1962), Los Angeles City College, and then Cal State Los Angeles where received a BS and MS in Computer Science.

Ren began his career at Pacific Bell and IBM as field engineer. In 1971, he began teaching Computer Technology at Los Angeles City College, where he taught for 37 years until he retired in 2008. From 1978 until 1985, Ren also owned a computer store, Computerama in Burbank, California, at the beginning of the personal computer era. He sold early Apple computers and IBM personal computers.

In 1978, Ren met the love of his life, Mary Marca, mother of five. They married in August of 1980, and he relished the challenge of helping to raise her children. All five attended university and enjoy successful careers.

In retirement, Ren took up fly fishing (Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers) and painting (Burbank Art Association). He was past VP and web master of the fishing club, and past president and web master of the art club. He entered his paintings in numerous local art shows and won several blue ribbons.

Ren was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life. Besides fly fishing, he enjoyed off-roading in his jeep with his buddies, Tim Hawkins and Bob Silva, and the rest of the "Monache Gang". Ren loved the beauty of the landscape, especially on his many trips to Mammoth, Bodie, and Bishop.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Mary Marca Colantoni, his five stepchildren: Paul, James, Margaret Ann, Matthew, and Jennifer; ten grandchildren: Grace, Aidan, Isabella, Vasiliki, Emma, Marcello, Athena, Jakob, Alice, and Amelia; daughters-in-law Nicole (Squires), Brooke Tomblin, and Anna Kapetanakos; and son-in-law Ralf Tomandl.

According to Ren's wishes there will be no funeral. The family will observe a private niche-side ceremony where laughter will predominate rather than tears–his orders!
