Refugio M. Garcia

Refugio De La Mora Garcia died of natural causes, peacefully in her home on March 8, 2017, at the age of 95 (two months short of 96) in the arms of her family. She was alert and cognizant of all her loved ones until the last day and enjoyed conversing with her ten children. Her longevity is attributed to her strength and will to live, and to the daily loving care from her daughter, Leticia. She passed away on Women's day, and she is our hero, reminding us to endure and to never give up. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was born on May 24, 1921, in Ixtlahuacan del Rio, Jalisco, Mexico. She married Agustin Benavides Garcia on January 24, 1944, and widowed in 1989. Since the 1950s, she has lived in the same home her husband built, and enjoyed her life as a homemaker, cooking (she made the best chile), tending her carnations and roses, feeding her doves, and beating us in a good game of cards.

We, her children, Jose, Carlos, Ramona, Manuel, Alberto, Margarita, Agustin, Miguel, Daniel and Leticia, feel we are miraculously alive because of her daily prayers, and she was a strong believer in praying the rosary.

She will always be remembered as Mama Cuca, a loving and caring woman, and an example of one who finds that fighting energy until the very end.
Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Glendale..
Mass will be held at Saint Bernard Carholic Church, 10 am, March 13.
Internment at Calvary Cemetery, following the funeral mass.
