Raymond Woodrow Jones, Sr. age 98 of Haverhill, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Wingate at Haverhill Nursing Home. A longtime resident of Haverhill, he was also a previous longtime resident of Hampstead, NH.

He was born on November 9, 1916 in Covington, KY the son of the late, Melvin O. and Clara Bell (Johnson) Jones. He was raised and educated in KY.

Raymond, or "Woody" as his family and friends affectionately called him, worked as a television repair man for almost 40 years. He owned and operated New England Radio & Television in Haverhill, MA.

Woody served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He served aboard the USS Erie Patrol Gunboat. The USS Erie was responsible for the security of the Panama Canal on the Pacific side. In 1946 he transitioned from active to reserve duty. He continued to serve throughout the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1951.

Woody had a love for flying. He was a licensed pilot for many years as a younger man. Having grown up on a farm in Kentucky, he had a "green thumb". He loved to tend to his vegetable garden. He was an avid reader and loved his Boston Red Sox. Woody and his wife, Doris owned a travel trailer and enjoyed taking trips back to Kentucky to visit with family and friends still living there.

Woody was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Doris C. (Vadeboncoeur) in 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela A. Jones of Merrimack, NH. His sons; Raymond W. Jones, Jr. and his wife, Gail of Methuen, MA, Steven A. Jones and his wife, Karen of Tampa, FL and Douglas A. Jones and his wife, Denise of Peoria, AZ. Sisters-In-Law; Claire Girroir and Lorraine Allen, both of Haverhill, MA. Seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews also survive him. Woody was also predeceased by his brothers; William, Richard, Carl and Clifford Jones.

Mr. Jones' family would like to thank the faculty and staff of A Wing at Wingate at Haverhill for the care and comfort that they provided to Mr. Jones while he was a resident. They would especially like to thank Michael and Maria for their exceptional devotion.

Family and friends are invited to attend Woody's Life Celebration on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 3-7 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street (Rt. 121A), Plaistow, NH 03865. Funeral Services will take place at the funeral home on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11 AM. Burial and presentation of military honors will follow the services in Maplewood Cemetery in Plaistow, NH.
