Raymond Lee Fortune

August 18, 1923 — October 10, 2018

Raymond Lee Fortune was born on August 18, 1923 to his loving parents, Ernest and Alvis Fortune.

Growing up in Boerne, Texas, Ray excelled at athletics and was the star baseball player in his 1941 senior high school year.

Ray was such a great baseball player, he received a full athletic scholarship to Texas A&M, and he hoped that he would become a professional baseball player.

But...with the Winds of War blowing…he quit college and joined the Air Force in 1942.

He was trained as a pilot and excelled at all tasks he was given. After the war, he then decided to build a career in the Air Force, and graduated from Officers Training School.

Ray was fortunate to have traveled the world as a pilot of many different types of military aircraft.

Meeting the love of his life, Florence Knepper, in 1947, he cherished her for over 50 years, until her passing in 2000.

He promoted quickly in the Air Force, partly because he was such a great golfer, every General wanted him to be their partner in Golf Tournaments !

Retiring as a Major from the Air Force in 1965, he then went on to a 20 year career at Continental Airlines, as a flight coordinator.

Retiring again in 1985, he spent his years enjoying Golf as his favorite past time, and spending time with his family and his retired military friends.

Ray is survived by his 2 daughters, Sharon Wilson and Linda Fowler, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
