Ralph McMeekin Jr., a man wore many hats throughout his life, he passed away on August 10, 2024, in West Covina CA. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, he left behind a legacy of love laughter, and countless memories.
Born on July 3, 1933 in Los Angeles, Ralph's journey was marked by resilience dedication, and an unwavering spirit. He had his career at Good Year Rubber Company from 1951 - 1967 and developed an allergy to rubber, he went back to school and he developed a passion for electronics and engineering. This decision led him to a career in Aerospace Defense, where he worked at prestigious organizations like JPL, Resdale, Xerox, Loral, and BAE Systems. His work on Air Force One and Egypt One allowed him to travel the world, leaving lasting impressions wherever he went.
In addition to his professional achievements, Ralph dedicated 20 years of service as a sheriff reserve, showcasing his commitment to his community. His love for the country life was evident in his passion for farming, that brought him peace and joy.
Ralph's kind and caring nature endeared him to all who knew him. Remembering his big smile, love of Westerns and John Wayne, and sharp wit, he touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity. A man of God, Ralph was known for his welcoming spirit, his ability to recognize and accept people for who they are, and his knack for telling a good joke.
An avid reader who enjoyed Jack Reacher novels, a movie enthusiast who loved watching Classic movies on TCM , and a skilled solitaire player on his Kindle, Ralph had a wide range of interests that kept him engaged and curious throughout his life.
Ralph's proudest accomplishments included his work on Air Force One, a symbol of his dedication and skill, and his role as a proud father of 10 children, a grandfather to a multitude, and a great-grandfather to many more. His family meant everything to him, and his legacy lives on through his descendants.
Ralph was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Willard McMeekin, Sr., his mother, Vivian Aletha McMeekin, his half-sister, Modena Nelson, his wives Shirley Ann McMeekin and Sandra Sue McMeekin, and his children Michael McMeekin, Kim Price, Sean McMeekin, and Kelly McMeekin. He is survived by his children Pam Owen, Joy Burt, Mark McMeekin, Dani Beth Chambless, Patrick McMeekin, Ona Suzanna Ruelas, and their respective spouses and partners.
Ralph's memory will forever be cherished by his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy of love, kindness, and strength.
A touching memorial service will be held on August 20, 2024, at the Forest Lawn - Covina Hills - Church of our Heritage in Covina, CA, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Ralph McMeekin, Jr. A viewing will be held from 2 pm - 2:30 pm with the service beginning at 2:30 pm. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
