Ralph Fernando Llamas

March 17, 1952 — October 17, 2019

Ralph Fernando Llamas, 67, born on March 17, 1952, in Mexico City, Mexico, passed away October 17, 2019 in the Arleta neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. Son of Rafael, and Irma Irene Llamas: Ralph was the eldest of his 5 siblings, having arrived with his parents from Mexico City to Studio City, CA at the age of 4 before moving to Pacoima, CA. He was a proud graduate of San Fernando High School; class of '69 and was active in the Chicano civil rights movement while attending CSUN in the early 70's, participating in the Chicano Moratorium. Always well-mannered, and often dressed impeccably, Ralph was an erudite of high intelligence with great ability to recall specific events and stories, also gifted in his ability to write, sketch, and paint. His passions ranged from Boxing and Chess, to the Performing Arts.

A true gentleman, he could spark a connection with most he encountered, regardless of their background, offering up a fascinating dialogue with that person - Ralph was indeed a man of the people. Having worked for over 25 years at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health; helping to serve some of the poor and working class communities of South L.A. before retiring in 2013. His message was consistent over the years: Be proud of who you are, where you come from, always educate and stand up for yourself, while placing family and loved ones above all else. Ralph Llamas is survived by his two sons: Roger, and Rory, along with two precious grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California.
